youth development, meetings, St Patrick's Day

National Youth Development Information Center
The National Youth Development Information Center (NYDIC) was created with generous support from the John T. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Lilly Endowment, and a number of other charitable organizations. The site is designed to function as a place for youth workers to look through information on funding, programming, research, policy, and job training opportunities. These materials are divided into sections that include “Funding”, “Programming”, and “Policy & Advocacy”.

Meetings Do Not Have To Last Forever and Accomplish Nothing
Does it feel like you spend all your volunteer time, or time at the office in meetings? You know, the endless meetings, the ones that frustrate everyone and accomplish little. This is a common complaint among workers and volunteers, of all types and levels. Does it have to be this way? I do not believe so. Here are some guidelines for conducting a productive and as short as is practical meeting.

What is St Patricks Day? What is Saint Patrick’s Day?
(Irish: Lá ’le Pádraig or Lá Fhéile Pádraig),
colloquially St. Paddy’s Day or Paddy’s Day,

Structure your speech for Maximum Impact
To create an impact with your speech or presentation, the audience has to “get” the message. That means they have to be able to hear it and to understand it. And to do that, first they must listen. So the very first step in this whole process is to gain their attention and then keep it, so that they listen, hear what you say, understand it, and then they can be influenced by it … which is, after all, the essence of impact. There are several strategies to keep attention and the one we’re looking at here is designing the structure of your speech. That structure has to work flawlessly to keep attention, and you can also use it to make you message absolutely clear. “Tell them what you’re going to say. Say it. Then tell them what you said”
And that is so true!!

What’s Your Diet Personality?

I recently took an online survey that promised to reveal my “diet personality.” The creators of the test had assured me that my weight loss endeavors had probably failed because I had not yet tried the diet that best fits me.
At first glance, this seemed like a gimmick, but after thinking about it, I realized there’s a lot of truth in the test-maker’s statement.

Posting every day! Well Tuesday was wonderful because an old friend dropped in unexpectedly, but that meant I lost 4 hours from the day, and this blog had to take a back seat. Yesterday - great day at work straight to pick up son from school, to a meeting to organise a band for the opening night of Convention, to pick up older son from the Conservatorium, to take younger to a party for friends who were all on camp together to watch the great State of Origin football match. And then home to husband with the football up loud in the room that also holds my comptuer. I gave up and went to bed!

Today I've got the comperes organised for convention, sent out the tip sets for the day and some errands. Good to catch up with Bosko. He recommended a book to me ages ago. I put in an order at the library and waited months. And then there never seemed to be time to read it. Finally my new energy specialist recommended I make a contract with my subconscious. Obviously this was something I've been needing for a long time. And so is taking the time to be still, instead of constantly busy. Meditate. Think. Create affirmations .... and read that book .... The Power of your Subconscious Mind by Dr Joseph Murphy Seems it worked for Bosko as well.

Anyway ... to business, to business. A new set of tips for you ... if you have to conduct meetings ... and if you are sick of them going round in circles and just being ineffective, inefficient, and a waste of time .. here is one of the top tools for successful meetings - an agenda. Learn the ways an agenda can be used to make meetings successful with this free set of tips. You can request it here.
